India\'s Eastern Naval Commander visits Commander

COMMANDING - IN - CHIEF EASTERN NAVAL COMMAND, India Vice Admiral Sureesh Mehta, currently in Sri Lanka called on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka this morning (13) at the latter's office, Army Headquarters (AHQ), Colombo.

Vice Admiral Sureesh Mehta on arrival at the entrance to the Commander's office was received by Commanding Officer, Headquarters Battalion AHQ and conducted the visiting Eastern Naval Chief to inspect the Guard Turnout in keeping with military ceremonials.

Brigadier G. P. R de Silva, Assistant Military Secretary representing the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) afterwards welcomed the visiting dignitary and accompanied him to the special saluting dais where the Naval Chief received the Guard of Honour, presented by soldiers of the VIR.

Minutes after the Guard of Honour, Senior Officers received him at the porch entrance to the Commander's office complex and conducted the dignitary to the Commander's office where he was warmly welcomed by the Commander.

Vice Admiral Sureesh Mehta during his brief meeting with Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and security importance. The visiting Naval Chief and the Army Commander at the end of the discussions exchanged mementoes adding historic significance to his visit to the Army.

As part of his itinerary, the Indian Naval Chief will inspect the two Indian Naval ships, INS Sukanya and INS Kirpan from the Eastern Fleet which have sailed into the Colombo port on Saturday (10) on a goodwill mission.
