Indian Military Delegation in Colombo for Indo-Lanka 6th Army to Army Talks

A military delegation of the Indian Army attending the sixth India - Sri Lanka Army to Army Staff Talks (6th AAST) arrived this evening (21) for a three- day visit to the island. The four-member delegation is headed by Major General Sanjaya Thapa of the Indian Army.

The delegation was warmly welcomed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Colombo by representatives of the Sri Lanka Army on arrival.

During their stay in Sri Lanka, the 6th AAST delegation will discuss continuing Exchange Programmes of Sports, Doctrinal Development, Promotion of bilateral military cooperation with special focus on training, administration and welfare, etc.

In addition, the visiting delegates would call on the Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters and visit Galle and Hikkaduwa in the south of Sri Lanka. On Thursday (23), the visiting delegation will attend a wreath -laying ceremony at the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) memorial at Battaramulla.

The sixth India - Sri Lanka Army to Army Staff Talks (6th AAST) sessions will take place at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) and the Army Headquarters Colombo respectively in a setting aimed to further promote understanding between the two armed forces.
