Indian Jawans in Operation 'Pawan' Commemorated

A special ceremony was held on Monday (15) at Palaly to commemorate Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) soldiers who laid their lives for defence of territorial integrity of their friendly neighboring country during the operation ‘Pawan’ in 1987.

Consul General of India in Jaffna Mr Shria Natarajan and the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J), Major General Mahesh Senanayake placed floral wreaths at the monument at Palaly in honour of fallen IPKF War Heroes and saluted the monument on the occassion.

The Operation ‘Pawan’ was conducted against LTTE by the 10 Para Commandos and a section of 13 Sikh Light Infantry soldiers. However, the IPKF soldiers were shot to death by LTTE terrorists during a heli-borne assault in the midnight on 12 October 1987. Later, the Palaly IPKF monument was built in memory of those War Heroes.

Mr Shria Natarajan, SF - J Commander, Officials of Indian Consular section in Jaffna and officers serving the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna attended the occasion.
