As a significant step in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and India, the annual joint military exercise 'Mithrashakti' is set to take place from 12 to 25 August 2024 at Maduruoya. The Indian Army contingent participating in this exercise arrived at Mattala Airport on 12 August 2024. Upon arrival, the Indian Army personnel were warmly welcomed by the Director General Infantry, Major General S.W.B Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, Director of the Mithrashakti Military Exercise, Major General U.K.D.D.P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, officials of the High Commission of India and Senior Officers.
The Indian contingent, comprising 15 Officers and 91 Other Ranks commanded by Colonel Ravindra Ahlawat, will engage in the exercise along with 18 Officers and 102 Other Ranks from the Sri Lanka Army representing the Gajaba Regiment. The exercise is being conducted under the direction of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.
This military exercise, conducted for the 10th consecutive time, first commenced in 2012 and has alternated between Sri Lanka and India over the years. It aims to enhance regional security through the friendship and shared experiences of the two nations.
