Symbolizing the continuing goodwill and cooperation between the Indian Army and the Sri Lanka Army, Colombo-based High Commission of India on Tuesday (12), gifted six horses of high breed to Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) for training purposes during a simple ceremony at the SLMA premises.
Those horses are for use to enhance the knowledge of budding SLMA officers on equestrian skills as part of their training modules.
Brigadier R.W.W.A.D.B Rajaguru, Commandant, SLMA, on behalf of the Commander of the Army, acknowledged the gift from Captain Prakash Gopalan, Defence Attaché at the High Commission for India, who represented the High Commissioner for India.
Brigadier Jayantha Gunerathne, Director Operations and a few other SLMA officers from the Army Headquarters and the SLMA witnessed the official handover ceremony.
The Equestrian Club of the SLMA is to receive similar gifts in the future too according to the SLMA authorities.
Tuesday’s brief formal handover ceremony was colored with melodies, rent by bagpipers and the Army brass band. Exchange of plaques culminated the occasion.
