Independence Day Commemorative ‘Maritime Silk Road Concert’ Staged in Welikanda

Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) in collaboration with the Welikanda Divisional Secretariat and the Chinese Cultural Centre of Sri Lanka staged the spectacle, 'Spring Festival' of the Chinese New Year for display at Aselapura Maha Vidyalaya, Welikanda on Saturday (3).

It was launched to coincide with the 70th Independence Day Commemoration of Sri Lanka.

The initiative in this connection was taken by the Commander, Security Forces – East (SF-E), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, aimed at introducing aesthetic aspects of different cultures to far remote sons and daughters in under privileged schools.

This colourful and elegant event got underway amidst a distinguished gathering, headed by the Commander, SF-East, Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, along with a host of other invitees.

The Chinese Cultural Troupe, depicting ‘Maritime Silk Road' conceptual notions, was comprised of Chinese national folk music and dances, presented in a creative and unique performing style and supported by an ensemble of traditional singers and dancers. The variety of instrumental music featured showcased the tapestry of artistic skills among members of the troupe.

Roaring applause of the spectators amply demonstrated their appreciation and commendation.

General Officer Commanding, 23 Division, Brigadier Chula Abeynayake, Divisional Secretariat, Welikanda, Mr H.S.K.G Bandara, Mr. S. T Danthanarayana, Senior Officers, a large gathering of school children and villagers enjoyed the event.
