Impressive public response enables Seva Vanitha to supply more relief stocks

Encouraging and impressive public response to the SOS call of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) for humanitarian assistance enabled ASVU to send more and more relief supplies to disaster-struck Batticaloa and Hambantota areas on Wednesday (29).\r\n\r\nThe Army Seva Vanitha Unit at Army Headquarters after receipt of an overwhelming response to their SOS call, dispatched five more lorry loads of essential items to Batticaloa district but those lorries after their overnight stay at Minneriya are scheduled to leave for their destinations, the following day (30).\r\n \r\nMeanwhile, four more lorry loads of relief items, collected by the Tri-service Disaster Relief Centre (DRC) at Galle Face started off from Colombo this afternoon, bound for Batticaloa and Hambantota.\r\n\r\nHowever, shortage of lorries has delayed further transport of relief stocks from DRC. It also appeals to the public to supply them with vehicles for use of passage of those items.\r\n
