Impressive Gains Recorded by Army Athletes in 101st National Athletics Championship - 2023

Sri Lanka Army athletes competing with international counterparts in the 101st National Athletics Championship - 2023, organized by the National Athletics Committee, made impressive gains and bagged 16 Gold medals, 23 Silver medals and 22 Bronze medals at Sugathadasa National Stadium during 28 - 30 July 2023.

Army athletes convincingly won in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, 110 meters hurdles, 400 meters hurdles, High jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Javelin throw, Discus throw and Hammer throw events turning a new chapter of athletics for the Army.

On the instructions of the Commander of the Army and the guidance of Major General R.A.J.N Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 62 Infantry Division and Chairman, Army Athletics Committee, Brigadier V.M.N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP, Brigade Commander, Commando Brigade and Vice Chairman, Army Athletics Committee and Lieutenant Colonel G.R.R.K.S Jayarathne RSP psc IG, Commanding Officer, 6 Sri Lanka Artillery and Secretary, Army Athletics Committee, Army athletes enthusiastically participated in this event and showcased their skills.

The Sri Lanka Army as the most leading single organization in the country boasts an unparalleled record in the field of athletics in the last five decades, having produced a few Olympic medalists and a large group of international and national-level athletes since the founding of the Army’s Athletics Committee in the year 1950.
