Ilukpitiya Kanishta Vidyalaya Receives Army Erected Two-Story Building

The students of Ilukpitiya Kanishta (Junior) Vidyalaya, Kotapola were bestowed their newly erected two-story building during a simple ceremony on 25 March 2024 amidst a distinguished gathering headed by Mr. Sagala Ratnayaka, Chief of Staff and Senior Adviser to the President on National Security.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, Major General M.K. Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General A.H.L.G Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, the Director General Financial Management, Major General R.A.J.N. Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and donors also took part in the event.

School children welcomed the invitees upon their arrival. The chief guest then marked the inauguration by unveiling the special plaque and cutting a ribbon. Afterwards, a few aesthetic events by school kids coloured the day’s programme.

Mr. Sagala Ratnayaka and Mr. Amanda Weerasinghe, a senior member of Colombo Royal College Old Boys' Association - Batch 1981, addressed the gathering. Towards the end, Mrs. A.B. Walisadeera, the Vice Principal of the school, expressed her deepest gratitude on behalf of the school towards the donors and the invitees.

The construction project of the building commenced on 16 June 2023, with the generous support of the Colombo Royal College Old Boys' Association - Batch 1981, coordinated by Mr. Amanda Weerasinghe.

Upon the request of Mr. A.G.N.C. Lakmal, the Principal of Ilukpitiya Kanishta Vidyalaya, the Commander of the Army directed Corps of Engineer Services troops to undertake the project. Accordingly, 12 Engineer Services Regiment troops successfully completed the project.
