HONG KONG DONORS OFFER RELIEF ITEMS TO SEVA VANITHA

The Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the Sri Lanka Army, the organ that has been in the forefront for relief collection on behalf of the Army since the day tsunami disaster struck Sri Lanka received another fillip to its humanitarian gesture on Friday (28) when Senator Line Hong Kong Ltd, a Singapore-based Cargo shipping firm sent in a container full of clothes, dry rations, kitchen utensils and canned food items to the Army for distribution.

The consignment, received by Lt Gen S.H.S.Kottegoda, Commander of the Army from Mr Chris Bauermeister, Managing Director for Senator Line Hong Kong Ltd, was subsequently handed over to Mrs. Sonia Kottegoda, President, SVU at a brief meeting, held at Army Headquarters to be distributed among tsunami victims housed in islandwide Welfare Centres. Mr Rohan Weeratunge, Sri Lankan Agent for Senator Line Hong Kong Ltd, was also present on the occasion.

Acknowledging the donor's gesture of goodwill, Lt. Gen Kottegoda briefed the status quo of relief operations and explained how the Army coped up with the developments soon after the tragedy struck. Senator Line Hong Kong Ltd was instrumental in getting the consignment organized immediately after the tragedy with the assistance from many donors in Hong Kong. The response was overwhelming and its local partner Ceyline Colombo selected the Army as its consignee in view of the organizational capability of the outfit.
