THE JATHIKA HELA URUMAYA yesterday said that the holding of the elections to the Batticalao Municipality and eight other local bodies was a fine reply to LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran and his henchmen in Colombo.
\"The Ranil-Hakeem combination tried to show the international community that the Batticaloa District elections were only an eye wash to show the world that everything is okay in Sri Lanka. But the duo was soundly beaten by the democratically conducted elections,\" JHU General Secretary Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thero said in the statement.
\"In 1994 soon after defeating the LTTE Mr. Wickremasinghe said that the only alternative to terrorism was to hold elections. But this time around he had changed his tone and did not contest, thus becoming an enemy of democracy,\" he said.
