A special ‘Aashirwada’ Pooja (blessing ceremony) of Hindu tradition was held on 02 October 2024 at Mayurapathi Sri Bhadrakali Amman Kovil, Colombo 6, extending its blessings to the forthcoming 75th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army and Army Day (October 10).
The ‘Aashirwada’ Pooja ceremony, organised by the Sri Lanka Army Hindu Association, symbolically blessed the Army Flag after taking it into the inner chamber of the Kovil amidst religious rites and rituals.
Major General K.M.P.S.B. Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Military Secretary and Chairman of the Army Hindu Association, welcomed Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, upon his arrival. The Commander handed over the Army flag to the priests for blessings as temple bells began to reverberate. A group of Hindu priests, led by Chief Kurukkal Sivasri Ragavan Kurukkal, subsequently performed the ‘Pooja’.
After the observances, the Commander of the Army respectfully made a cash donation to the Chairman of the Kovil, Mr. Sundaralingam, for its development work on behalf of all serving in the organisation.
The Chief of Staff, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Adjutant General, Senior Officers, members of the Army Hindu Association and a few Other Ranks of the Hindu faith joined the prayer sessions.
