MULLAITTIVU: HAVE you ever seen this type of a hospital treating ‘innocent civilians’? Have you also seen a medical center which has been “extensively booby-trapped” and its outside perimeter, filled with explosives and protected by a fortified bunker?
A few weeks ago, an international relief organization, under the illusion that this unit was meant for civilians, repeatedly requested the Army to refrain from targeting this so-called ‘hospital’ in the No Fire Zone. Photos speak louder and contradict all those conclusions, proving once again how the terrorists have taken the IC for a ride.
This bunker-covered makeshift medical unit, housed in a dilapidated old building, as all bits and pieces affirm has been widely used to treat fellow-Tiger terrorists receiving injury in the clashes with Army troops. It has been covered with coconut logs as a protective wall. Saline bottles hung on cloth lines, blood pressure units, dressings, oxygen cylinders, needles, surgical spirit bottles, antibiotic capsules, injection syringes, tablets, capsules, urine bags, surgical bandages and many other chemicals. The area surrounding the entrance to the unit has been mined and booby trapped, according to ground troops.
The unit had photos of garlanded Tiger leaders inside and all mats on the floor had been splashed with blood stains, pointing to the fact that wounded terrorists had been treated inside until most recent times. Tiger propagandists and their proxies from roof tops claimed the troops have struck a ‘hospital’ inside the New Safety Zone and massacred innocent civilians, a story that was conveniently bought by some LTTE supportive media. This hurriedly put up emergency treatment center, as all evidence confirmed, has perhaps been the one and only alternative for injured terrorists in the remaining area.
