The 205th anniversary commemoration of 'Weera Madugalle Disawa and Weera Monarawila Keppetipola Disawa' (Heroes’ Day) got underway at the ‘Abhimansala 3’ wellness resort in Pangolla on Sunday (26 Nov) with the participation of members of the historic ‘Madugalle Generation’ and War Heroes under rehabilitation.
It was some 205 years ago, heroic ‘Weera Madugalle Disawa’ (Udagabada Nilame) and ‘Weera Monarawila Keppetipola Maha Disawa’ laid their lives during the famous ‘Uva-Wellassa Liberation Struggle’ in 1818 against British imperialists with the view to liberating ‘Uva-Wellassa’ from the grips of the British.
Brigadier P.K.G.C Pascual, Commandant, ‘Abimansala-3’ welcomed the guests on arrival along with a resident War Hero who offered sheaves of betel at the entrance.
Organized by Mrs. Nilmini Welivita, Chairperson, historic ‘Madugalla Generation', the commemoration included invocation of blessings and merit-transferring, recital of the national anthem, donation of essentials to the resident War Heroes and brief orations.
