Health Minister & DG Health Services Speak High of Dedicated Services of Armed Personnel & All Medical & Health Personnel

The routine Media interaction at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at Rajagiriya took place this afternoon (26), attended by Mrs Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Minister of Health, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and Medical Specialist, Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services.

Minister of Health Mrs Pavithra Wanniarachchi revealed that not a single positive COVID-19 case has been detected in Sri Lanka in the past 24 hours ending this afternoon (26) by about 4.45 pm, and this status quo should persist in the next couple of days as the 14-day incubation period reaches its climax by early next week. “Four more fully recovered COVID-19 patients left for their homes this morning and they will be in self quarantine at their homes for some time. The Nation owes a special gratitude to the Commander of the Army and the Army for the gigantic role they are playing for the benefit of the Nation on the instructions of HE the President. Likewise, those operating ‘Suwa Seriya’ ambulance service who are carrying seriously ill patients to Hospitals, despite great risks involved against their own lives, too deserve our special respect and appreciation. We all can be satisfied with the gradual discharge of those infected persons as a country, and our special tribute also goes to all medical personnel and para medics for their untiring contribution at this critical hour of our Nation,” the Minister remarked.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva told the Media that one more batch of 223 individuals after two-week-long stay at Quarantine Centers (QCs) at Kandakadu, Diyatalawa, Meeyankulam and Punani proceeded home this morning (26) in Army-provided transport facilities. Four of them were South Koreans and Iranians. “To-date, a total of 678 quarantined individuals have so far left for their homes after quarantine. As at present, 2866 individuals, inclusive of 27 foreigners are housed at those 46 QCs. Likewise, more persons after quarantining, from Kandakadu and Diyatalawa QCs are set to leave for home tomorrow (27),” Head of the NOCPCO, Lt Gen Silva remarked.

Medical Specialist, Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services in his contribution said that the Army’s assistance to Health authorities in the control of this deadly pandemic is highly appreciated. In the same manner, the public are urged to pay the highest respect to all health employees, identical to how they paid tribute to War Heroes during the fight against terrorism. 22 positive cases from high risk zones of Colombo district, 14 from Kalutara district and 10 from Gampaha district have been so far confirmed, in addition to 9 positive cases that had been found from Puttalam district.
