Health Facilities for Troops in North Multiplied Opening New Base Hospital

Expanding health benefits of the troops serving the peninsula further, one more new Army Base Hospital with 60 beds was formally opened this afternoon (18) in Vasavilan, Jaffna by the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID - 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva who is attending a string of inaugurations in Jaffna at the invitation of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna.

4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and 5 Corps of Engineer Service Regiment using their engineering and technical know-how tirelessly contributed to the construction work of the new Army Base Hospital under the supervision of the Directorate of Army Medical Services.

Amid religious blessings, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva at the request of the Jaffna Commander afterwards unveiled a plaque, cut a ribbon and formally declared open the new Army Base Hospital. Taking a close look around, the day’s Chief Guest, together with accompanying Senior Officers went to see each and every section in the new premises and shared a couple of views with several section heads available on hand.

Signalling the start of its function, the day’s Chief Guest symbolically registered the first patient at the new base hospital. It houses an OPD medical section, emergency unit, surgery unit, laboratory, document section, dispensary, pharmacy, isolation ward, female ward, medical store, officers’ ward, X-Ray, ECG Section, Department of Physical Medicine (DPM) unit and a Public Health Inspector (PHI) section ,Dental Section, Training Section, etc. The proceedings culminated with the day’s Chief Guest leaving his compliments in the visitors’ book.

Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Senior Army Officers and troops participated in the opening ceremony.
