In commemoration of the 16th National War Heroes’ Day, HE the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited the war heroes residing at ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ in Attidiya on 19 May 2025.
Upon his arrival, the President was accorded a formal drive pass salute at the entrance and was warmly welcomed by Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) WWV, RWP and two Bars, RSP and Bar, USP, MMSc (Strat Stu-China), MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MSc (Def & Strat Stu), fndu (China), psc, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, along with other Senior Officers.
The President then toured the wellness centre and interacted with the resident war heroes, engaging in cordial conversations. He also presented gift vouchers to the bedridden residents at the centre.
During the visit, a special artwork created by an inmate was presented to the President. Following this, the President joined the tea with residents, taking the time to engage in friendly and heartfelt conversations. The gathering was also shown a special documentary highlighting the mission, services, and history of Mihindu Seth Medura.
Afterwards, he penned down a message in the visitors’ book, commending the courage and sacrifice of the nation’s war heroes.
The event was graced by the presence of Director Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, the Commandant - Mihindu Seth Medura, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks.
