The presentation of Colours to No 5 Strike Air Squadron and No 6 Transport Helicopter Squadron of the 70 year old Sri Lanka Air Force took place this morning (5) at the Air Force Base at Katunayake, headed by HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and a host of invitees.
The Sri Lanka Air Force, now celebrating its 70th Anniversary with air shows, presentation of Colours, release of history books, etc brought the anniversary commemoration to climax with the ceremony at Katunayake where Marshal of the Air Force and Governor for Western Province, Roshan Goonetilleke, Secretary Defence, General Kamal Gunarathne (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenna, Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Inspector General of Police, Mr C.D Wickramaratne, senior Air Force officers from Bangladesh, Pakistan and US Pacific Region, former Air Force Commanders, Senior Air Force Officers and invitees graced the formal event.
HE the President awarded Colours to those above-mentioned Air Force squadrons and afterwards inspected the No 2 and No 5 Squadrons in the C 130 camp at Katunayake. At the same occasion, Air Commodore Channa Dissanayake presented the maiden copy of the book, ‘70 Years of Air Power History’, authored by him to the President. Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana also presented a copy of the history book and a special memento to the day’s Chief Guest, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the same occasion.
