A ceremony to cultivate barren paddy fields in Otiyamalai Gramaseva sector of the 642 Brigade area under the 64 Division Headquarters in Mullaittivu, covering 40 acres in extent, was conducted on Thursday (9) on the directions of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The project, implemented by the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), commanded by Major General Jagath Dias. The day’s harvesting ceremony got underway after a religious ceremony at the Otiyamalai Hindu Kovil.
To be parallel with the harvesting ceremony, packets, containing dry-rations and garments were distributed among 21 poverty-stricken families by the SFHQ-MLT.
