A conceptually-devised multi-faceted mechanism for promotion of durable peace, reconciliation, cooperation and well-being of the community in the Jaffna peninsula saw its fruition when the Security Force HQ-Jaffna raising its civil-military cooperation to new heights opened its own 'Harmony Centre' for utility projects at Kankesanthurai on Monday (11).
The Jaffna Harmony Centre, a notion suggested by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, housed in a completely-renovated architecturally rich building aims to initiate and accommodate many community- oriented projects that will reinforce expectations of reconciliation and projects, related to Community health, Education, Communication & Information, Construction, Empowerment of Women & Children, Cultural and Religious Affairs, Agriculture & Livelihood, Disaster Mitigation, Sports & Entertainment and Vocational Training which would in turn enormously benefit the general public and particularly the youth in the peninsula.
The new Centre in the long run will also facilitate conduct or training of Cultural Dances, Folk Music, Education, IT Education, Health and Well-being, and Redress of Grievances (Ombudsman) in order to address needs of the affected and disadvantaged sections of the society. Later, it expects to include many more additions such as Sports Development, Beauty Culture, Health Care Centre, etc as a hand of friendship from the troops. A simple ceremony invited its architect to open the Centre by cutting a ribbon and unveiling the plaque to that effect.
The construction work was completed by 10 Sri Lanka Artillery and 5 Corps of Engineer Services regiments under the supervision of the Commander 515 Brigade. Expenses required for this new establishment was borne by the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna with the assistance of well-wishers.
Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), Brigadier General Staff and Brigadier Admin and Quartering of the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna, Commander 515 Brigade, Senior Officers and troops were present at the opening ceremony.
