'Harmattan-3' Concludes 4th Phase at Kandakadu

The ongoing UN Mission Orientation Field Training Exercise (FTX) 'Harmattan - 3 ' for Combat Convoy Company (CCC) duties or the full-scale rehearsal of military manoeuvers as practice for fairly realistic scenarios and situations as dusk fell on Monday (15) arrived in Kandakadu completing 387 km in distance before it reaches its final destination at Minneriya Infantry Training Centre (ITC) on Tuesday (16).

The carefully planned FTX using 'Drone' technology tactics of 15th Drone Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA), for surveillance, practical simulated war conditions, Tactical Exercises, map model pratices, simulated attack scenarios and making situations more unpredictable and realistic in more difficult or more far-fetched settings of actual battles began in Mailady, Jaffna on with 20 officers and 223 Other Ranks on Friday (12) before they undertake tasks in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA) in Mali and Goa.

Intending to sharpen the skills of those participating to a level which will surpass that of the mock enemy, the FTX continuing its mission for the fourth consecutive day has been devised on the guidelines given by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and is spearheaded under the supervision of the Director General, General Staff Branch Major General Priyanka Fernando covering 457.2 km in total. It has so far traversed the general areas of Mailady, Point Pedro, Nagar Kovil, Wettalakerni, Paranthan Visuvamadu, Pudukuduirippu, Mullaittivu, Nayaru, Welioya, Padaviya, Pulmodai, Thawul Wewa, Gomarankadawala, Trincomalee, Kinniya, Muttur, Seru Nuwara and Kandakadu before it proceeds to Minneriya via Pulathisigama, Polonnaruwa and Giritale underthe 5th Phase in 47 vehicles including 6 armoured vehicles, 6 unibuffels,19 administrative vehicles.

20 officers and 223 Other Ranks of Gajaba Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Sri Lanka Engineers, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Corps of Engineer Service, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps, Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police and Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps are participating in the arrangement.
