Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in his victory day message said this significant day was achieved due to dedication and commitment of our forces and police personnel. “Our heroic forces ushered this day after shedding their blood and sacrificing their lives. They sacrificed their lives for the country,” he said.“The three decade war was ended due to the noble sacrifices and they offered this without any personal gains. The freedom what we experience today is hard earned,” the Defence Secretary added. “The invaluable service they rendered to the motherland cannot be commemorated in a day”.
But our duty and obligation should be to show gratitude to the priceless service and serve their families with utmost satisfaction,” he said.” As an integral part of their sacrifices we should rally round to one aim and make this country a developed nation giving true meaning to the lives of our heroic fallen war heroes,” he said.
