Hallala Villagers Pay Tribute to War Heroes

To coincide with ongoing ‘Ranaviru Uttama Pranama’ commemorative period, grateful villagers in Hallala, off Weligama in the south, together with monks, students and representatives of affected Army families recalled invaluable memories of fallen Army War Heroes and invoked blessings on the Army during a ‘Ashirwada & Anusmarana Pinkama’ (blessing & merit transferring act) at Hallala Sri Bodhirukkarama Purana Viharaya on Sunday (17).

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army at the invitation of Ven. Kokmaduwa Chandraloka Thero, Incumbent, Sri Bodhirukkarama Purana Viharaya and Ven Deiyyandara Sumanajothi Thero, Viharadhikari and Deputy Principal (Parivenadhipathi), Rathgama Vidyananda Pirivena, graced the meritorious programme and added importance to the arrangement at the temple.

Organizers of the day’s arrangement honoured the memories of two great War Heroes of contemporary times, Hasalaka Gamini of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and Colonel Lalith Jayasinghe of Special Forces by inviting their next of kin to grace the meritorious programme in the company of the day’s Chief Guest, Commander of the Army.

At first, Lieutenant General Senanayake symbolized his visit to the venue by planting a ‘Naa’ sapling in the Daham school premises before he moved to the temple to attend the proceedings. After religious performances in the ‘Poojawa’, the Commander was invited to honour the memories of above-said two War Heroes by presenting two symbolic mementos to the spouse of late Colonel Lalith Jayasinghe, Mrs Kaushalya Jayasinghe and the mother of late Corporal Gamini Kularatne alias Hasalaka War Hero, Mrs Y. J Juliet of Hasalaka, Mahiyanganaya.

At the same occasion, eight more Army War Heroes living in the area received appreciative mementos from the Commander of the Army following selection of them by organizers of the event.

Religious blessings were also invoked on all disabled War Heroes and those still under treatment while mentioning about the unmatched services of serving Army personnel in the organization. Devotees, villagers and students welcomed Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake on his arrival, together with monks.
