GW Regimental HQ Felicitates Retiring Major General Deshapriya Gunawardana

The formal regimental farewell to retiring Major General S.A.D.A Deshapriya Gunawardana who was the former Director General, Directorate of Infantry got underway at Gemunu Watch (GW) Regimental Centre in Kuruwita on Tuesday (30) in the presence of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.

The GW Centre Commandant, Brigadier A.A.D.N.S. P Dunuwila welcomed the Chief Guest for the day on arrival and invited him to review the Guard Turnout at the entrance. Afterwards, he received the salute of the colourful Guard of Honour from the special dais in conformity with military traditions after he reviewed the parade.

Later on, he paid tribute to the memory of fallen GW War Heroes at the monument in the company of the Centre Commandant. An All Rank tea arrangement at the Paradise hall in the Regimental HQ provided opportunity for Officers and Other Ranks of the Gemunu Watch to share a couple of thoughts with their senior Officer who has served for more than 34 years in the Sri Lanka Army. As the day's first segment ended, all ranks extended their heartfelt gratitude to the distinguished outgoing Highlander for his commitment and dedication to the Gemunu Watch and wished him a healthy and prosperous future.

At dusk, the customary farewell dinner was hosted. After the day's Chief Guest was accompanied to the Officers' Mess, Major General T. S Bangsajayah, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel of the Regt GW delivered the farewell speech on behalf of all Officers of the Gemunu Watch to show deep sense of gratitude and appreciation of the services of Major General Deshapriya Gunawardana.

A special memento that appreciates dedicated and committed services of the retiring Senior Officer was then presented to the outgoing Major General Gunawardana by Colonel of the Regiment. The day's Chief Guest recalled his yesteryear memories in the Army and the GW in a moving oration as the proceedings came to end.
