GW Produced 7th Chief of Staff at Mother Regiment in Kuruwita

The newly-appointed Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General Dampath Fernando, paid his first formal visit to the Kuruwita Regimental Centre, the Gemunu Watch (GW) on Wednesday (4) after assumption of duties as the 52nd Chief of Staff of the Sri Lank Army. He is also the 7th Chief of Staff, produced by the Gemunu Watch.

The Centre Commandant warmly welcomed Major General Dampath Fernando on arrival and invited to review the Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Afterwards, a Guard of Honour salute was presented by GW troops in accordance with military traditions.

Planting of a sapling in the GW compound took place a little later followed by the ceremonial commemoration of fallen War Heroes at the GW War Hero monument.

Subsequently, a group photograph was taken with all the officers of the Gemunu Watch present with the new Chief of Staff.

Officers and Other Ranks got an opportunity of interacting with the Chief of Staff during an All Rank tea arrangement at the Other Ranks’ Mess of the Regimental Centre.

A memento prepared by All Ranks of the Gemunu Watch was afterwards presented to the Chief of Staff by the General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, Major General Aruna Jayasekera.

A few minutes later, he addressed the troops and extended his sincere gratitude to all past and present senior officers, other officers and the soldiers of the Gemunu Watch for paving way for his today’s success which was filled with many moments of hardships, challenges and happy moments too.

Senior Officers, Junior Officers and Other Ranks of the Gemunu Watch were present to extend their best wishes to the new Chief of Staff. The Chief of Staff also shared lunch at the Officers’ Mess.
