Gunners Mark Their 131st Regimental Anniversary

Officers and Other Rankers in the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment marking its 131st Regimental Anniversary prioritized the conduct of religious observances and commemoration of fallen SLA War Heroes on Saturday (20) at the SLA Regimental Headquarters in Panagoda.

At the request of Major General Rukmal Dias, Colonel Commandant, SLA and Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army graced the milestone event in the company of Officers and Other Rankers.

The day’s brief programme commenced with the floral wreath-laying ceremony at the SLA War Hero memorial and performances of a two-minute silence in honour of fallen SLA War Heroes. Lieutenant General Senanayake, together with Major General Dias placed floral wreaths and saluted the memories of those heroic SLA War Heroes.

The wreath-laying was joined by SLA Centre Commandant, all Commanding Officers, Regimental Sergeant Major, Senior Non Commissioned Officers, Other Rankers and relatives of fallen SLA War Heroes.

In the evening, a colourful procession conducted members of the Maha Sangha to the ‘Pirith Mandapaya’ (octagon) and invited them to continue chanting until the following morning (21) in order to invoke blessings on All Ranks and transfer merits on fallen War Heroes. It was attended by Major General Dias and a representative gathering of Officers, Other Rankers and relatives of fallen War Heroes.
