Green Test, Now Mandatory for All Army Vehicles


Sri Lanka Army in consistent with the government’s environmental policy on vehicle emission tests, commenced its conduct of ‘Green Tests’ on the entire fleet of Army vehicles through LAUGFS Holdings Ltd during a brief ceremony on Tuesday (1) at Bellantara, Attidiya Emission Test Centre.

The programme, initiated by Directorate of Supply and Transport in the Army on the directions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, saw the first Army vehicle, undergo the standard Emission Test after it was symbolically handed to the service centre by the Commander of the Army, Chief Guest for the occasion.

The ceremony with brief addresses of the Commander of the Army, Chairman, LAUGFS Holdings Ltd, Director LAUGFS, Eco Sri (Pvt) Ltd for Emission Testing, preceded by introductory remarks, was attended by a gathering of senior Army officers, including Major General L. B. R. Mark, Master General Ordnance, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Adjutant General, Brigadier A.K.P Wickremasinghe, Director, Supply and Transport and officials of the LAUGFS Holdings Ltd.

In his contribution to the occasion, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake told the gathering that the emission test as a timely need is helping enormously to keep our cities clean without polluting air we breathe. This project goes hand in hand with beautification projects, launched by Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Army wants to be partners to it by maintaining our fleet of near 15,000 vehicles to suit environmental standards, the Commander said.

Afterwards, the Chief Guest, together with senior officers present at the location watched the first Army vehicle undergoing the emission test soon after the launch of the project.

Mr W.K.H. Wegapitiya, Chairman, LAUGFS Holdings Ltd and its senior officials, senior Army officers and other invitees attended the occasion.
