Govt. to Celebrate the Victory Against Terrorism

THE GOVERNMENT is to celebrate the Victory against Terrorism in a week long festival islandwide starting tomorrow from schools, said Agriculture Minister Maithripala Sirisena.

School Principals have been instructed to get the participation of 3.9 million students for ‘Ranaviru Pranama’ – Hounouring War Heroes -- programmes at schools today. Tomorrow all state institutions, semi-government institutions, local government institutions, provincial councils and district secretariats are to conduct ‘Ranaviru Pranama’ programmes in their respective institutions, he said.

On Friday, May 22 there will be a mass ‘National Ranaviru Pranama’ rally at the Parliament grounds in Sri Jayewardenepura. It will be addressed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“We expect to bring a minimum of 150,000 people from all parts of the country to Colombo on Friday. They must gather at Campbell Park before 12.00 noon. From there the procession to the venue of the rally will start at 1.00 p.m.,” said Mr. Sirisena.

The Ranaviru Sathkaraka Sevava’ is scheduled for Saturday, May 23 when the families of war heroes who have made the supreme sacrifice for their motherland will be given gift parcels and their services will be appreciated.  

On Sunday, May 24 there will be religious ceremonies at every Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Hindu sacred place to invoke blessings on the war heroes, said Mr. Sirisena. (Courtesy: Daily Mirror)
