Governor for North-East visits Jaffna

Major General (Retd) A.K.Jayawardane, Governor for North & East with his officials arrived in Palaly on Wednesday (03) morning for a two-day visit to the Jaffna peninsula. Major General Sunil Tennakoon, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna was at the airport to receive the Governor.

Later, the visiting Governor was accompanied to the Thelippalai G.G Ponnambalam Cancer Hospital by the Northern Commander where he supervised ongoing renovation activities of hospital wards, Doctors' hostels and Out Patients' Department. Jaffna Divisional Secretary, Mr. C. Pathmanathan, Thelippalai Assistant Divisional Secretary S. Muralidaran, some senior administrative officials in the area and the hospital authorities also joined the inspection tour. Major General Jayawardane and the Jaffna Divisional Secretary, to make their visit memorable, planted two king coconut saplings in the hospital premises to mark the Governor's visit to Jaffna.

At the Kopai College of Education, Major General Jayawardane met the Vice President and members of the academic and non-academic staff of the college. He did not forget to visit the newly constructed study/reading halls and the library building in the College.

Before he left the peninsula the next day (04), Major General (Retd) Jayawardane, also visited the Jaffna Library and the Duraiappa Stadium. Major General Sunil Tennekoon and Major General Lawrence Fernando, Commander 52 Division also joined the visiting delegate.
