Gift Packs, Donated by Chinese Buddhists Distributed among the Poor

The 24 Infantry Division HQ with sponsorship provided by the Chinese Buddhist community took steps to distribute essential dry ration packs, each worth Rs. 5100/= among 250 families of low income groups, resident in Maha Oya, Bandaraduwa and Gonagolla areas in Ampara on Sunday (2 July) after inviting them to the Sri Gnanavijayaloka Viharaya, Sri Gothama Viharaya and Sri Wimalarama Viharaya (temples) in those areas.

The General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division, Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc through the coordination of the 241 Infantry Brigade troops organized the distribution programme.

Mr. Nishantha Witharana and Mr. Udaya Karunarathna coordinated the Chinese gesture with the blessings of the monks at those three temples.

General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc and the Commander 241 Infantry Brigade Colonel L.S.D.N Pathirathna RSP USP were present during the distribution programme. The Commanding Officer of 16 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard supported the organizational aspect of the project.

Several Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the 241 Infantry Brigade were also associated with the distribution project.
