Troops of the 14 Gemenu Watch and the Corps of Engineer Services (CES) under the 61 Division converted a general ward at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital to serve as a COVID treatment ward as affected numbers are rising in Galle District.
This new ward consists of 120 beds and troops cleaned them up, repainted and moved them to this newly-converted ward within 2 - 3 days. The newly-converted and completed ward was handed over to the hospital authorities on Thursday (5).
Meanwhile, 100 bed sheets were also donated to the hospital on the same occasion through coordination of the GOC 61 Division and 613 Brigade Commander.
Major General Sujeewa Senerath Yapa, Commander Security Forces - West, Major General Dammi Hewage, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division and Brigadier Upul Kodithuwakku, Commander, 613 Brigade provided guidelines and supervision.
