The new Colonel of the Regiment, Gemunu Watch (GW) Major General T.S Bangsajayah who is also the Director General Training and the Commander, Army Training Command assumed office as the 15th Colonel of the Regiment on Saturday (26) at Kuruwita GW Regimental Headquarters.
He succeeded the former Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Aruna Jayasekara who was also the Commander, Security Forces - East before his retirement.
The day’s itinerary commenced in accordance with military traditions after the incoming Colonel of the Regiment Major General T.S Bangsajayah was greeted to a Guard Turnout and welcomed by the GW Centre Commandant at the Regimental Centre.
Thereafter, a parade, presented by Gemunu Watch troops honoured and saluted Major General T.S Bangsajayah in the parade ground as one more segment of the military formalities. The incoming Colonel of the Regiment, afterwards reviewed the parade, accompanied by the Parade Commander, together with the Centre Commandant.
A few minutes later, the new Colonel of the Regiment planted a sapling near the administrative building of the Regimental Centre and added memories.
Later on, he placed his official signature and took over the office of the Colonel of the Regiment amid religious observances. Afterwards, he received the blessings of the Maha Sangha and offered ‘Pirikara’ to them. After refreshments, Major General Bangsajayah addressed all ranks and set out his vision for the Regiment.
Major General T.S Bangsajayah is a proud product of the St Benedict College Kotahena. He joined the Sri Lanka Army on 01 October 1985 with the Intake SSC 7 and was trained at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa and commissioned on 31 May 1986 and posted to 1st Battalion the Gemunu Watch.
