Gemunu Watch Marks its 30th Regimental Anniversary

The Gemunu Watch (GW), one of the most admired regiments in the Army proudly celebrated its 30th anniversary on Monday (19) at its Kuruwita Regimental Headquarters in Rathnapura.

On account of the anniversary, a series of commemorative programmes were launched with the participation and guidance of its Colonel of the Regiment, GW, Major General Dampath Fernando.

Multi religious observances and prayers at Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Dewalaya, Hindu temple, Jumma Mosque and Catholic church at Rathnapura respectively invoked blessing on the Regiment during March 14-17.

In addition, an alms-giving to twelve members of the Maha Sangha at Edandawala temple, followed by an Asirvada ‘Pooja’ inside the shrine premises of the GW Regimental Centre. All ranks took part in the blessing ceremony.

The following day, as melodies of patriotic songs rent the air, the Colonel of the Regiment, GW as the Chief Guest for the military segment of the arrangements reviewed the parade upon the request of the parade commander before he received the salute after the customary Guard Turn Out saluted him.

Major General Dampath Fernando, Colonel of the Regiment, GW, together with Senior Officers afterwards took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the GW Regimental monument after all military formalities were done.

The commemorative ceremony reached its end with all rank refreshments in the premises where Officers and Other Rankers, together with the visiting Colonel of the Regiment shared refreshments.

Commendation of GW sportsmen who did well in different fields of sports was also done in a separate ceremony to coincide with the anniversary.
