Friendly Soccer Match Win Goes to Civil Sports Club

‘Harmony Soccer’ match, meant to promote goodwill, understanding and reconciliation between civilians and members of the Security Forces got underway on Friday (11) on a proposal, made by Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN).

The friendly soccer team at ‘Jolly Boys’ sports ground in Pallikuda, was effectively organized by 661 Brigade and 15 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops under the guidance of Major General Duminda Keppetiwalana, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division.

Soccer players of the VIR team and players of the ‘Jolly Boys’ Sports Club vied closely with each other in the second round, amid a large gathering of sports fans, civilians and members of the Security Forces, assembled at Pallikuda.

Players in the Jolly Boys Sports Club, scoring 2 goals against their rivals emerged as winners. The awarding ceremony was headed by Major General Bimal Vidanage, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - Kilinochchi as the Chief Guest. An ‘Angampora’ martial art display during the awarding ceremony entertained the gathering.

In addition, troops also distributed school accessories and stationery among five schools in Pooneryn area at the end of the awarding ceremony.

Brigade Commanders of 651, 661 and 663 Brigades of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi, Officers, civilians and soccer fans were present during the match.
