Foundation stone laid to renovate dilapidated school

Children are the assets of this country, it matters not, be they are based in the south or the north since they are the adults of tomorrow. This simple truth evidenced at Eluttumaduval north, a remote hamlet in Jaffna peninsula when the foundation stone for re-construction of the Government Tamil School was recently laid.

Re-establishing of infrastructures required to carry out educational activities in this school which remained hitherto non-functional was discussed at length during several rounds of meetings school authorities have had with Educational and Security Forces authorities after initial discussions got under way in March this year before this ceremony.

Fortunately enough, a Swiss delegation came forward to help renovate those dilapidated school buildings of the school with the assistance of UNHCR after they were impressed with the initiatives of the Security Forces.

Officers and Other ranks of 516 Brigade under the guidance of 55 Division, have already mended the fence around the school in a Shramadana campaign while Army Engineers declared that the premises remains a least risky area to coincide with standards advocate by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by Swiss, Educational and Security Forces authorities, a host of members of the tutorial staff led by its principal and a section of parents and well-wishers.
