Fortified LTTE Camp Attacked

KILINOCHCHI: TROOPS ADVANCING towards the areas north of VELLANKULAM met heavy resistance from terrorists Sunday (3).

Terrorists from their hideouts north of VELLANKULAM launched two attacks on the troops around 4.30 p.m. and 6.15 p.m. to obstruct the onward move of the troops.

However, LTTE's attempts were thwarted by the troops using their firepower which killed twelve terrorists and injured fourteen more Sunday (4).

A fresh and fierce gun battle erupted in the same area around 11.15 a.m. causing death to nine terrorists and injured seven. Two soldiers were also killed in the same incident.

Meanwhile, a fortified LTTE camp located north of VELLANKULAM was attacked Sunday (4) morning around 11.30 a.m.. Five among the terrorists in the location were killed while six more suffered injuries.

Two soldiers were killed in LTTE mortar fire during the incident.

The same day, one more soldier sustained injury due to explosion of a terrorist anti personnel mine in the same area.
