Former Army captives receive bonanzas

Five soldiers of the Army, who were held captive by LTTE for a long period of time and subsequently released, were finally compensated for their bravery and determination on Tuesday (24) when they received keys for their newly-built houses gifted by Deshamanya Lalith Kothalawala.

The ceremony in this connection, held at \"Financé House\" in Colombo where one civil employee who underwent the same experiences with Armed Forces personnel under the LTTE, saw he too received a new abode under this scheme which upheld their tolerant actions. These newly built houses are located in Magammana, Pedinnoruwa, Ellalamulla and Panapitiya areas where these recipients preferred to live in after selecting these plots of land on their own.

Lance Corporal J.P Gamini (S/453290) Lance Corporal I.D.N. Nishantha (S/316779), Lance Corporal U.S.R. Jayakumara (S/455154), Lance Corporal S.M Gunawardane (S/455062) and Lance Corporal M.D.S.P De Silva (S/454214) in the company of their next of kin and children received keys to their new nests amidst greetings and well-wishing.

The civil employee, B.B Naveendra also received his keys on the occasion.

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Lt General L.P Balagalle, Brigadier L.B Aluvihare, Director Welfare, Mrs. Lalith Kothalawala, Senior Officials of the Ceylinco Group and groups of next of kin of these recipients also attended this brief ceremony.
