Foreign &;amp; Local Delegations Visit Menik Farm IDP Relief Village

A UNDP delegation headed by its Assistant Secretary General Mr. Ajay Chhibber visited Wanni to observe the plight in relief villages in Vavuniya on 12th November 2009.
 
During their visit they talked to the people temporarily housed in the Menik Farm relief village and were highly satisfied with the facilities provided to the villagers. They also planted a tree sapling to mark their visit to the Menik Farm.

Later, they met Brigadier General Staff SFHQ-W Brig. S. Ranasinghe.

The same day, a UNHCR delegation also met Brigadier S. Ranasinghe to learn about the present situation on re-settlement and rehabilitation.

Another foreign delegation from the Embassy of the United States of America visited the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni) and had a discussion with Brigadier S. Ranasinghe on the same issues on 13th November 2009.

Meanwhile, a team of Parliamentarians representing the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) along with the Governor Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri met the Commander Security Forces Headquarters (SFHQ-W) Major General Kamal Gunaratne on Monday (16) with a view to receiving updates on de-mining, re-settlement and welfare activities being carried out for internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Relief Villages in Vavuniya.
 
Later, the TNA Parliamentarians accompanied by Minister Rishard Badurdeen visited the Menik Farm Relief Village and got the first-hand experience regarding welfare measures for IDPs. 

They also visited Murunkan and Mannar areas and observed de-mining activities in Adampan and renovation work of the Giant Tank.
 
Brigadier General Staff SFHQ - (W) Brigadier S. Ranasinghe joined the team during their visits.
