A DELEGATION of foreigners representing the US based Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC), to get the first hand experience on resettlement and other development projects in the east, visited Batticaloa and Vakarai areas on Thursday (05) along with the Defence Attaché of the American Embassy.
Ms Fatema Sumar and Ms Jacqueline Smith of the SFRC, accompanied by Defence Attaché of the American Embassy Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence A. Smith and Ms Nilmini Gunarathne Rubin first met the Commander Security Forces Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) Major General Srinath Rajapaksa at the SFHQ (E) and received a briefing on the just completed resettlement programme and ongoing development projects now being carried out with the assistance of the Army.
Later, they visited Valaichchenai Government Tamil Mixed School, Kathiraveli and Vakarai government schools. The delegation spent some time with students who welcomed the delegation warmly. Commander 233 Brigade Colonel T.D. Weerakoon was also present on the occasion.
