FMSSL & SLADA in Separate Ceremonies Hail Army Contribution to Racing & Riding

Two separate glittering ceremonies organized respectively by the Federation of Motorcycle Sports Sri Lanka (FMSSL) and the Sri Lanka Auto-sports Drivers Association (SLADA) recently recognized exclusive skills of Sri Lankan drivers and riders, including Army achievers for the year 2017.

Those awarding ceremonies, held at Grand Monarch Hotel, Thalawathugoda and Golden Rose Hotel, Boralesgamuwa separately appreciated Signalman D.B.K Silva (125 & 250 cc) and Private A.W.L.J Kumarasinghe (standard 250 cc) who won national Championships in the FMSSL event and Signalman D.B.K Silva (125 cc) and Private A.W.L.J Kumarasinghe (standard 250 cc) in the SLADA competition in the presence of a distinguished gathering.

Brigadier Wasantha Madola, Deputy Chairman, Army Motor Sports Committee, representing Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Chairman, Army Motor Sports Committee, Lieutenant Colonel Randhi Jayasinghe, Secretary, Army Motor Sports Committee, together with a host of civil sector invitees who are instrumental in organizing island-wide motor sports racing events, graced both occasions at different venues.

The event witnessed those achievers in Racing Motor Cross motorbikes, Racing Thoroughbred motorcycles up to 250cc, etc in the corresponding year, awarded laurels by different invitees, called to the stage.

At the same time, both the FMSSL and SLADA hailed the Army’s contribution to the promotion of motor-racing in the country and presented special mementos to the Army Motor Sports Committee during both ceremonies.

FMSSL is the national body that oversees the two-wheeled competitions in the country, affiliated to the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM).

Established by a team of drivers, riders and officials to take motorsports in Sri Lanka to the next generation, the Sri Lanka Auto-sports Drivers Association (SLADA) has introduced the latest technology in timing and equipment.

SLADA has nominee representatives from the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Air Force on its executive committee, a first for any Racing Association in the country.(Photo Courtesy : FMSSL and SLADA)
