The traditional 'Katina Pooja' of the historical Tissa Raja Maha Vihara in Kankesanthurai got underway on 5 November with a series of religious observances under the patronage of the Chief Incumbent of the temple, Ven Ginthota Nandarama Thero in the presence of a large gathering of devotees.
This year’s event was patronized by the troops of the Forward Maintenance Area (FMA) North under the guidance of the FMA Commander with the blessings of the Commander, Security Forces Jaffna. Police and the Special Task Force extended their untiring support to the success of the religious event.
On November 2023, a 'Bodhi Puja Pinkama' 'Dhamma ' sermon and Pirith Chanting were conducted with the participation of a large number of devotees. The religious programme concluded offering of ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) and 'Atapirikara' to Buddhist monks and Katinanisansa Sermon by the Chief Incumbent of the Temple, the following morning.
