Flood Relief Operations in Muthiyankattu Kulam Reservoir Area

Due to ongoing heavy rainfall across the country, the four spill gates of the Muthiyankattu Kulam Reservoir were opened on 27 November 2024, resulting in severe flooding in Wasanthipuram village. This inundation affected 72 families, displacing 129 individuals.

Under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding of the 59 Infantry Division and the supervision of the Commander of the 593 Infantry Brigade, Army troops promptly relocated the displaced families to Mannakandal Mixed School, ensuring their safety and providing immediate relief.

The floodwaters also caused severe inundation in Kulamurippu, where two workers from a local construction company were trapped. The troops from 592 Infantry Division successfully rescued the workers. During their return, they encountered a stranded family, including Mr. D.M.S. Ajith Kumara, a Forest Department caretaker, his wife, and their 9-month old infant, who were safely rescued from their official residence.
