Inter Division Drill Competition of the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W), initiated for the first time to inculcate interest on drills, self-discipline and build up personality of officers and soldiers, got underway on Friday (10) at the Poonewa Navy Recruit Training School, "Shiksha" in the Wanni.
6 platoons representing 21, 54, 56, 61 & 62 Divisions participated in the competition and Officers and Drill Instructors from other SFHQs, inspected the entire competition.
The multi-coloured Drill Display that testifies to the high standards of discipline among members of the Army commenced as per directions of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) following guidelines given by the Commander of the Army.
Troops of 62 Division with the coordination and support of the Sri Lanka Navy Pandukabhaya Camp, Poonewa organized this event under the supervision and direction of Brigadier K.G.D Perera, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division,
General Officers Commanding , Commander Forward Maintenance Area (FMA) N/C, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Commander North Central Naval Area, The Commandant Naval Recruit Training Center SLNS ‘Shiksha’ - Poonewa, Officers of under Command Divisions. Large number of other ranks from Army and Naval troops witnessed the event.
The climax of the day’s events was the presentation of trophies, medals and certificates to the Best Teams, Best Platoon leaders.
17 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) team of the 62 Division carried away the trophy as Champions while 10 Sri Lanka Artillery team emerged as runners-up .Lt M.D.P Disanayake was adjudged the Best Platoon Commander and was awarded by the day’s Chief Guest.
Major General Boniface Perera after extending his warm wishes, presented a special memento to the Commandant Naval Recruit Training Center, Sri Lanka Navy Service (SLNS), ‘Shiksha’ - Poonewa amidst a thundering applause in appreciation of their support.
The Wanni Commander extended his praise and appreciation to all the members in Drill display teams and also to those who organized the event.
