First GOC of New Engineer Division Assumes Office

Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, adding a new leaf to the history of the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) assumed office as the first General Officer Commanding of the first-ever Engineer Division of the Sri Lanka Army on Wednesday (25) amid religious blessings at its new HQ at Mattegoda.

Appointed by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, the brainchild behind the realization of the new Division that could take up national-level tasks, Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, the first General Officer Commanding of the Engineer Division received a warm welcome on arrival. A Guard Turnout, presented by the troops of the Sri Lanka Engineers saluted him before Major General Chandana Wijayasundara warmed his new office and placed his signature in the first official document to mark assumption of new duties. Members of the Maha Sangha invoked blessings and blessed the new inauguration.

An All Rank tea followed his maiden but formal address to the Officers and Other Ranks in the new Division HQ, in which he elaborated on the importance of performance of nation-building tasks as a formidable Division for the best interests of the country. Senior Officers, members of the staff were at the occasion.
