First Batch of the CCC Bound for Mali Leaves The Island

The first segment of the Mali-bound Combat Convoy Company (CCC) of the Sri Lanka Army left the island early this morning (24) in order to assume their roles and tasks in the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali.

The first contingent of 150 Army personnel, out of a total of 200, belonging to 10 regiments of the Army, thus scheduled to leave for Mali will serve the assignment for a period of one year under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

The remainder of fifty (50) will shortly fly there on the instructions of the Office of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Mali.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army, just a few days ago met this contingent and spoke to them at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Headquarters in Panagoda.

Major General Amal Karunasekara, Chief of Staff at the Army Headquarters, together with Major General Dananjith Karunaratne, Director General General Staff, Brigadier Aruna Muhandiram, Director Operation and Brigadier M.M Kithsiri, Center Commandant, SLLI were at the airport this morning (24) to see them off.
