Finalists in Inter Regiment Football Championship Vie Closely

The finals in the Inter Regiment Football Championship Tournament - 2019 of the Army kicked off this evening (30) at the Colombo Race Course ground in front of a massive crowd of football fans.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army at the invitation of Major General Athula Kodippili, Chairman, Army Football Committee and Adjutant General at the Army Headquarters witnessed the final encounter as the day’s Chief Guest.

The final encounter was between footballers of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC), both teams who shone distinctively beating all other contenders throughout the tournament.

Before the finals got to a start, Lieutenant General Silva greeted the finalists after each of them was introduced to the day’s Chief Guest as a formality.

After close tussles, SLASC Regiment footballers championed the tournament and carried away the Championship Trophy amid huge roars of applause and cheers. The SLLI footballers were adjudged the runner-up.

The awarding ceremony in the Championship Tournament got underway afterwards. After he was invited on stage, the day’s Chief Guest awarded the Championship Trophy, plus several other accolades, shields, medals and certificates to the winners.
