Father of VIR Opens 'Major General Jaliya Nammuni Pavilion'

'Major General Jaliya Nammuni' Cricket Pavilion, a much-admired addition to the Archers' Cricket Ground which has been named in honour of the founding Father of the Viayabahu Infantry Regiment was ceremonially declared open on Saturday (20 May) by the ‘Father of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment’ himself, Major General Jaliya Nammuni (Retd) during a glittering ceremony, held at the VIR Regimental Centre premises in Boyagane, Kurunegala.

Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Director General General Staff of the Army and the Commander, 1 Corps respectfully received the VIR's founding father on arrival at the premises, together with a group of senior officers and ushered him to cut a ribbon and warm the new pavilion, dedicated to his name.

The two-storied pavilion that matches all modern standards has the ability to accommodate approximately 400 personnel and is equipped with a fully-fledged gymnasium, separate dressing rooms and a VIP lounge providing a spectacular view of the entire VIR Cricket Ground.

The founding father, Major General Jaliya Nammuni (Retd) afterwards saw for himself the latest development projects that have been made at the Regimental Centre and its surroundings.

After a while, a cultural dancing display, followed by a friendly cricket match between the champions and runners-up of inter battalion cricket tournament was held in the ground adding importance and glamour to the inaugural occasion. The programme concluded with a lunch, organized at 'The Salute' multi-functional hall.

Senior Officers including Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Commander, SF-West, Council Members, Senior Officers and Regimental staff were present during the proceedings.
