Prior to the forthcoming Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Corps Day, troops paid tribute to the memory of fallen SLAC War Heroes at the War Heroes’ Monument at Kalattewa on Thursday (23 Nov).
Major General S.W.M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, Military Secretary and Colonel Commandant SLAC graced the event as the Chief Guest, together with several Senior Officers.
At the outset, Colonel Commandant was welcomed by Brigadier P.N Wijesiriwardena RSP USP, Centre Commandant SLAC and Brigadier L.K.T Fernando RSP USP, Commander, Armoured Brigade at the entrance.
Later, the day’s Chief Guest, together with Senior Officers and family members of fallen War Heroes made their way to the monument and saluted their memory by placing floral wreaths.
At the end of the day’s event, the Colonel Commandant shared a few moments with those family members of late War Heroes.
28 Officers and 415 Other Ranks of the SLAC made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of the nation during the fight against LTTE terrorism before May 2009.
