Family with Handicapped Child & Ailing Father Awarded Livelihood Aids

61 Infantry Division troops of the Security Force HQ-West coordinated the supply of a wheelchair and much needed sanitary items to a deserving family of four members, including a handicapped daughter and a father affected with blood cancer at Walgama, Habaraduwa on Monday (Jan 23) during a simple event after visiting the beneficiary’s doorstep.

This humanitarian gesture was initiated by Major General Udaya Herath, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 61 Infantry Division under the guidance of Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces-West.

This was made possible with the kind patronage, offered by one Mr Prabath Liyanage along with his colleague, Mr Ramesh Sabha, who is presently residing in Italy as well as a member of the 87 batch of the Old Boys’ Association of Royal College, Colombo.

During the occasion, the handicapped father was awarded a new wheelchair and the family a stock of sanitary items, worth over Rs. 100,000/=. In addition, a financial grant of Rs. 30,000/= was also presented to the family by Mr Ramesh Sabha.

The GOC, 61 Infantry Division attended the occasion as the Chief Guest with Lieutenant Colonel J.E.L De Soysa, Civil Affairs Officer, 61 Infantry Division and a gathering of Officers and Other Ranks.
