Soldiers (Jawans) of Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) who paid the supreme sacrifice during their missions in Sri Lanka between July 1987 and March 1990 were remembered in a brief but solemn ceremony on Thursday (26) at the IPKF monument in Palaly.
This commemorative ceremony coincided with the 68th Republic day of India (January, 26).
Mr A Natarajan, Consulate General for Indian High Commission in Jaffna, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) attended the event as a special invitee.
A brief introduction on the history of the event was followed a two minute silence in honour of the fallen War Heroes.
Later, Mr A. Natarajan, Consulate General of India in Jaffna and Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, paid floral tributes to the monument.
A considerable number of IPKF War Heroes, laid their lives in Sri Lanka while fighting for the territorial integrity of their friendly neighbouring country.
